TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Pramono Anung, the governor of Jakarta, officially launched the Transjabodetabek bus service connecting Blok M, a major commercial and transit hub in South Jakarta, and Soekarno-Hatta International Airport on Thursday, March 12, 2026.
The Jakarta provincial government has set a promotional fare of Rp3,500 (about US$0.22) for the route during its first three months of operation.
Pramono said the promotional pricing aims to encourage commuters to try the new service, particularly ahead of the Eid al-Fitr travel season, when millions of Indonesians return to their hometowns.
“For the Blok M SH2 route, for three months, especially in anticipation of Eid al-Fitr, we will set the fare at Rp3,500,” he said during the inauguration event in South Jakarta on Thursday.
After the promotional period ends, the government will review the fare structure because of the large subsidy required to operate the route, Pramono said.
“After that, we will conduct an evaluation because the burden is too heavy and the subsidy is too large,” he added.
The Jakarta administration estimates that the fare could be adjusted to between Rp10,000 and Rp15,000 per trip following the three-month evaluation period, depending on operational performance and subsidy considerations.
The new route is expected to reduce the use of private vehicles traveling to the airport. According to data from the Ministry of Transportation of Indonesia, around 54.9 million passengers pass through Soekarno-Hatta Airport each year, with roughly 70 to 80 percent relying on private transportation.
“With 70 to 80 percent of the 54.9 million using private transportation, it will likely increase the burden on roads and contribute to congestion,” Pramono said.
Currently, several transportation options serve the Blok M–Soekarno-Hatta route. These include airport buses operated by DAMRI, which charge about Rp80,000 per trip, taxis from Bluebird Group costing roughly Rp217,000 excluding tolls, and ride-hailing services with fares ranging from Rp127,000 to Rp155,500.
The SH2 Transjabodetabek route will initially operate 14 buses between 05:00 AM and 10:00 PM, with waiting times estimated at 10 to 20 minutes. The Jakarta provincial government expects the fleet to serve around 1,900 to 2,000 passengers per day.
