LPDP Reveals Why Awardees Haven't Met Post-Study Commitment

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Education Fund Management Agency (LPDP) has identified 44 scholarship recipients who have not yet fulfilled their post-study service obligations. M. Lukmanul Hakim, head of LPDP’s Legal and Communication Division, explained the reasons behind the delays.

“Causes vary, including delayed graduation reporting, continuing Ph.D. studies, or working in international organizations, which are considered exceptions,” Lukmanul said on Tuesday, February 24, 2026.

LPDP is currently verifying each of the 44 recipients individually to clarify their obligations according to the scholarship agreements. Recipients who fail to meet their commitments may face sanctions, including reimbursing education costs.

However, the agency noted that the sanction process is ongoing, including calculations for repayment amounts. “Therefore, the final figures cannot be disclosed at this time,” Lukmanul added.

Controversy Sparks Public Attention

The issue came into the spotlight after LPDP alumnus Dwi Sasetyaningtyas shared her child’s British passport on social media, expressing a desire for her children to hold foreign citizenship.

LPDP later confirmed that Tyas’ husband, identified by the initials AP, is also an LPDP alumnus who has not yet completed his post-study contribution obligations. Under LPDP regulations, all recipients must serve or contribute to Indonesia for a period equal to twice the length of their studies plus one year.

As a result, the government placed AP on a blacklist, barring him from government employment. Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa confirmed that AP has agreed to accept other sanctions.
