TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Prabowo Subianto summoned Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Bahlil Lahadalia to the Presidential Palace in Jakarta on Thursday, March 12, 2026. Bahlil stated that the limited meeting today discussed the work of the energy transition acceleration (EBTKE) task force and plans to convert conventional vehicles to electric.
"I met with Bapak President earlier, called to report on the discussions of the EBTKE task force, renewable new energy, and the conversion of vehicles from gasoline to electric," said Bahlil after the closed meeting at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta on Thursday evening.
Bahlil mentioned that the task force had held its inaugural meeting attended by eight ministers and representatives of PT PLN (Persero). Bahlil stated that one plan that could be implemented in the near future is the transition of operational diesel power plants (PLTD) to new renewable energy, such as solar power plants (PLTS) and geothermal power plants (PLTP).
"Perhaps on the holiday (Eid), this can already be put into action, and the first thing we will accomplish is the diesel power plants, PLTD from solar, we will replace all of them with solar power plants and also geothermal," said Bahlil.
The General Chair of the Golkar Party emphasized the importance of this energy transition, especially given the current state of global geopolitics, which is full of uncertainty due to the war in the Middle East. This war also affects the domestic energy supply.
"That's why we are optimizing all of our potential here domestically, energies that we can convert from fossil fuels like this," he added.
Nevertheless, Bahlil has not yet provided specific details about which PLTD locations will be shut down. He only mentioned that the power plants to be closed are located in various regions of Indonesia.
According to Bahlil, the shutdown of PLTD will not be immediate. It will wait until the PLTS construction is finished. "Build it first. If it's shut down before the replacement is built, then there won't be any replacement. So, in parallel, as it is being built, once it's operational, the PLTD will be shut down," Bahlil said.
Furthermore, Bahlil stated that the government plans to adjust the Electricity Supply Business Plan (RUPTL) in line with the national energy transition.
