TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Prabowo Subianto expressed gratitude to the Royal Jordanian Air Force F-16 fighter jet pilots. Prabowo received an escort from two fighter jets as he entered the Jordanian airspace on late Tuesday, February 24, 2026, local time.
Similar escort was also provided during Prabowo's visit to Jordan in April 2025.
One of the F-16 pilots greeted Prabowo through radio communication from the cockpit. "Your Excellency, Mr. President, Assalamualaikum warahmatullah. This is Lion One speaking. Your Excellency, on behalf of His Majesty King Abdullah II and the people of Jordan, we are honored to welcome you to the Jordanian airspace. It is a great honor for us to escort your flight this evening. Wishing you a blessed stay and a safe landing. Ramadan Mubarak, Sir," the pilot said, quoted from the video statement of the Presidential Secretariat on Wednesday, February 25, 2026.
From the presidential aircraft cockpit, Prabowo responded to the greeting. Wearing a striped shirt, the Indonesian head of state spoke into the microphone, expressing his gratitude for the escort. "Assalamualaikum warahmatullahi wabarakatuh, Lion Flight, Indonesia One. This is President Prabowo Subianto from Indonesia," he said.
Prabowo also expressed gratitude to King Abdullah II and the people of Jordan for the welcome. "Please pass on to your commanding officer and His Majesty how pleased I am to be back here in Amman, in Jordan," Prabowo said.
Prabowo arrived at Marka Military Airport, Amman, the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, on Tuesday, February 24, 2026, around 08:00 p.m. local time. Upon arrival at Marka Military Airport, Prabowo was directly welcomed by the Crown Prince of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, Prince Al Hussein bin Abdullah II.
In addition to the Crown Prince, Prabowo was welcomed by several high-ranking officials from both countries. From the Indonesian side, the Indonesian Ambassador to the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, Ade Padmo Sarwono, and the Indonesian Defense Attach to the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, Navy Colonel (P) Dafris D. Syahruddin, were seen.
Meanwhile, the officials of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan also welcomed Prabowo. The welcoming procession was also enlivened by the presence of an honor guard.
President Prabowo is scheduled to meet with the King of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, King Abdullah II ibn Al-Hussein, today, Wednesday, February 25, 2026. The bilateral meeting between President Prabowo and King Abdullah II will discuss a number of issues, one of which is the strategic cooperation between the two countries.
The meeting is expected to strengthen the partnership between the two countries in the fields of education, defense, agriculture, and issues in the Middle East region, as well as the Palestinian struggle.
Prabowo's visit to Jordan is the second since he assumed office. Upon arrival during his visit to Jordan on April 13, 2025, Prabowo was directly welcomed by King Abdullah II at Marka Military Airport, and was even driven by Abdullah II to the hotel where he stayed.
At that time, Prabowo admitted to having been friends with King Abdullah II for a long time. They have known each other since they were young.
It is known that King Abdullah II ascended the throne as the King of Jordan in 1999. Meanwhile, Prabowo was inaugurated as the Indonesian President on October 20, 2024.
King Abdullah II and President Prabowo are both alumni of the United States Army Ranger School at Fort Benning. They first met on December 4, 1995, at the inauguration ceremony of Prabowo as the Commander of the Special Forces Command (Kopassus).
