TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin agreed to enhance bilateral cooperation, particularly in economics, energy, space, agriculture, industry, and pharmaceuticals.
During a meeting in Moscow on Monday, April 13, 2026, Prabowo expressed his appreciation for Russia's support for Indonesia, starting with its immediate acceptance into BRICS and the intensified cooperation in several fields.
"We view Russia as having played a very positive role in addressing this uncertain geopolitical situation. Therefore, we feel it is very necessary to consult on how we will face the situation going forward," Prabowo stated, as quoted from Antara.
"We should continue to strengthen (bilateral) cooperation, particularly in the economic and energy sectors," he added.
He acknowledged that almost all areas of cooperation have shown rapid progress, although some of them need to be accelerated.
Prabowo stated that he would personally handle and monitor such issues, particularly regarding monetary relations between the two countries.
In the meeting, Russian President Vladimir Putin conveyed the increase in economic and trade cooperation, which rose 12.5 percent last year.
Despite a slight slowdown in bilateral trade at the beginning of the year, he expressed confidence that cooperation could be further enhanced.
"We attach great importance to the joint intergovernmental commission, and we hope that in today's meeting, Your Excellency, we will have the opportunity to explore and share solutions to further strengthen the partnership between our two countries," Putin noted
Putin specifically highlighted key sectors for cooperation between the two countries, including energy, space, agriculture, industry, and pharmaceuticals
He also highlighted that Indonesia's membership in BRICS opens up new opportunities for developing cooperation between the two countries.
