TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya said that Indonesia’s non-subsidized fuel prices remain lower than those in several other countries, following a recent increase in Pertamax prices.
His statement came after PT Pertamina Patra Niaga raised the prices of Pertamax (RON 92) and Pertamax Green (RON 95) on Wednesday, June 10, 2026. Pertamax rose from Rp 12,300 to Rp 16,250 per liter, while Pertamax Green increased from Rp 12,900 to Rp 17,000 per liter.
The price adjustment came outside Pertamina’s usual monthly schedule, which is typically announced on the first day of each month.
“Although it has increased, the price of Pertamax in Indonesia is still much cheaper than RON 92/95 fuel in other countries,” Teddy wrote in a statement posted on the Cabinet Secretariat’s @sekretariat.kabinet account on Friday, June 12, 2026.
He also cited fuel prices in several Southeast Asian countries, including the Philippines at Rp 22,158 per liter, Laos at Rp 31,945, Thailand at Rp 28,910, Myanmar at Rp 25,085, and Singapore at Rp 42,971.
In Malaysia, RON 95 fuel is heavily subsidized at around RM1.99 or roughly Rp 8,800 per liter, while the non-subsidized price for foreign users reaches RM3.72 or about Rp 16,450.
Teddy stressed that Pertamax is a non-subsidized fuel, meaning its price follows global crude oil movements. He added that subsidized fuels such as Pertalite and Solar have remained unchanged, at around Rp 10,000 and Rp 6,800 per liter respectively.
“Global oil prices have risen sharply since March, but the government has held back price increases for months,” he said.
Teddy’s explanation was released on Friday evening at around 19:00 WIB, coinciding with a student protest at the Hotel Indonesia Roundabout in Jakarta. The demonstration, which began in the afternoon, called for lower prices of basic goods and fuel.
