TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka is joined by student representatives from the Faculty of Psychology at the University of Indonesia (UI) to visit East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), a region still reeling from the impact of the 7.7-magnitude earthquake that struck last week.
Departing from Halim Perdanakusuma Air Force Base in Jakarta, on Thursday, the vice president will inspect post-disaster response and recovery efforts on the ground.
During his visit, VP Gibran invited the students to assist with trauma healing for affected residents in disaster regions.
Citing Antara, Gibran believes the enthusiasm and concern of young people need to be facilitated so that they can be translated into concrete actions that help affected communities.
He believes that student involvement is a crucial part of the spirit of mutual cooperation in disaster response.
Therefore, the government must not only ensure that community needs are met, but also encourage the younger generation to participate and contribute according to their capacities and expertise.
This visit also serves as part of the government's efforts to directly observe the conditions of disaster-hit communities and ensure that their emergency response needs are met.
In this way, the government's recovery efforts can be tailored to the actual conditions and needs of the community.
During his working visit to NTT, VP Gibran is scheduled to inspect several disaster-affected locations and basic public service facilities in several areas, namely Sikka, Manggarai, and East Manggarai regencies.
