TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The West Papua Province Flobamora Big House Association (PRBF) reported that fundraising efforts to assist earthquake victims on Flores Island, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), Indonesia, have raised approximately Rp167.641 million.
Clinton Tallo, Chairman of PRBF West Papua, stated in Manokwari on Monday that the fundraising drive was not conducted solely by the NTT diaspora community but also by various other regional associations across the archipelago as a gesture of solidarity.
"The funds collected to date exceed Rp167.641 million. It wasn't just NTT families taking to the streets; other community associations in Manokwari also stepped in to help," he said.
He explained that the donation drive for earthquake-affected residents—conducted through street-side fundraising activities since August 17, 2026—received a positive response from all segments of society in Manokwari Regency.
This is reflected in the preliminary donation total gathered through street collections at various locations, as well as voluntary contributions from provincial and regency government officials and other institutions.
"We extend our heartfelt thanks to the people of Manokwari who have shown such care for the Flores earthquake victims," he said.
According to information from the NTT local government, the emergency response period following the 7.7-magnitude earthquake that struck Flores lasts for 14 days, running from August 15 to August 28, 2026.
Flobamora West Papua has also established a donation center at the Molas Multipurpose Building in Reremi Puncak, Manokwari, for members of the public wishing to contribute aid after the street fundraising activities conclude.
"Funds raised by regional associations, civil society organizations, university groups, political parties, and others have already been handed over to us," Clinton said.
He noted that similar fundraising efforts were also carried out by the NTT diaspora living in other regencies, such as South Manokwari, Teluk Wondama, Fakfak, and Kaimana. The provincial Flobamora board has coordinated with chapter boards across West Papua's regencies to discuss the distribution mechanism for funds raised for earthquake victims on Flores Island.
"The Manokwari Regency Flobamora chapter is also raising funds. We are coordinating the distribution—deciding whether the regencies want to send the funds to us to forward, or send them directly to Flores themselves," he said.
Additionally, the organization will hold a "thousand candles" vigil in Manokwari to mourn the victims of the Flores earthquake; the current toll stands at 100 dead, 1,603 injured, and 180,327 displaced.
"We will hold a thousand-candle vigil in Manokwari while waiting for all donations to be collected for shipment to Flores," he said.
