2030 World Cup: List of Stadiums, Host Cities, and Important Dates

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Spain has returned as champions of the World Cup after upsetting Argentina in a 1-0 showdown, and with it, this year's edition of the world's grandest football tournament came to a close.

Now, the World Cup will not be for another four years, but anticipation is brewing already as the 2030 edition—which coincides with the 100-year anniversary of the first-ever FIFA World Cup—promises to deliver an exciting new format. 

Spanning across six countries, the 2030 World Cup will be hosted in Morocco, Portugal, and Spain, with three centenary celebration matches set for Argentina, Paraguay, and Uruguay. 

This will be the first time the men's World Cup will be held in six countries across three continents.

Which Cities and Stadiums Will Host the 2030 World Cup?

Host nations have already proposed which stadiums they intend to use for the 2030 World Cup. Although the final list is yet to be confirmed, an impressive total of 23 stadiums have been included in FIFA-approved hosting plans. 

Citing Sports Illustrated and Dezeen, here is the complete list of stadiums expected to host the 2030 World Cup:

Among the top contenders to host the 2030 World Cup finals are Madrid's Estadio Santiago Bernabéu and the brand-new, still under-construction, Stade Hassan II stadium in Marrakesh, Morocco, which will seat around 115,000 after its completion.

Another standout candidate is Barcelona's Camp Nou, with a planned capacity of around 105,000 seats. 

When Will the 2030 World Cup Begin?

The match schedule for the 2030 World Cup will adapt to the travel and preparation times needed for the teams involved in the Centenary Celebratory games in South America. FIFA has released the illustration of the important schedule to note for the next World Cup, with the dates as follows:

• Saturday-Sunday, June 8-9, 2030: Centenary celebration games in Uruguay, Argentina, and Paraguay

• Thursday-Friday, June 13-14, 2030: Opening ceremony and opening game(s) of the FIFA World Cup 2030.

• Saturday-Sunday, June 15-16,  2030: First matches of the other teams of the groups of Uruguay, Argentina, and Paraguay.

• Friday-Saturday, June 21-22,  2030: Second matches of all teams of the groups of Uruguay, Argentina, and Paraguay.

• Sunday, July 21, 2030: Final of the FIFA World Cup 2030

So far, only six teams have qualified for the 2030 World Cup: Morocco, Portugal, and Spain, as tournament hosts; and Uruguay, Argentina, and Paraguay, as hosts of the centenary celebration. These countries qualify automatically from the slot allocation quota of their respective confederations.
