TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – A fire broke out at the Jakarta Regional Revenue Agency (Bapenda) building on Abdul Muis Road in Central Jakarta on Friday night, according to Antara.

Authorities deployed 20 fire engines and 100 firefighters to contain the blaze, which was reported through Jakarta's 112 emergency service at around 9:30 p.m. local time. The first two engines arrived in Petojo Selatan, Gambir, at 9:40 p.m., and firefighting operations began a minute later.

Seventeen of the 20 units came from Central Jakarta, while three additional units were deployed from Pati Kendal.

The fire reportedly started around 9 p.m. at the Bapenda building at No. 66 Abdul Muis Road. The cause and extent of the damage had not been disclosed.

One Person Rescued From Building

A joint team of police and personnel from the Jakarta Fire and Rescue Agency (Gulkarmat) rescued one person who was trapped inside the Bapenda building at around 1:30 a.m. Saturday, according to Antara.

The victim received first aid at the scene before being taken to a hospital by ambulance. Firefighters then continued searching the building for possible additional victims.

Abdul Muis Road Closed During Firefighting

Central Jakarta Police Chief Commissioner Reynold EP Hutagalung said Abdul Muis was closed from multiple directions while firefighters continued extinguishing and cooling the site.

“Of course, Jalan Abdul Muis is still closed at this time,” Reynold said in the early hours of Saturday.

He said road access from both Harmoni and Budi Kemuliaan remained closed to support firefighting and cooling operations.

Reynold apologized to road users and urged the public to avoid the area while emergency crews worked.

“We ask the public not to approach the area and to allow the firefighters to carry out their duties optimally,” he said.

Authorities have yet to announce the cause of the fire or report any casualties.
