TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia's South Kalimantan Regional Police Chief Inspector General Rosyanto Yudha Hermawan confirmed that all maritime agencies are currently focused on assisting the search and rescue operations for victims of the Virgo Transport 8 sinking in the Java Sea.

"Everyone is mobilizing; the TNI (military), Polri (police), and other maritime agencies have joined forces with Basarnas (National Search and Rescue Agency)," he said in Banjarmasin on Sunday evening.

Yudha personally visited Trisakti Port in Banjarmasin to oversee the evacuation process for the arriving survivors.

He wanted to ensure that personnel were prepared to provide the necessary services to the victims.

"I have also ordered medical teams from Bhayangkara Hospital and the Medical and Health Division to bolster health services; if any victims require referral, they must be taken to the hospital immediately," he emphasized.

The Police Chief also expressed his gratitude to all personnel and volunteers who worked tirelessly to assist in the search and rescue efforts following the sinking of the Virgo, which was carrying 243 passengers from Surabaya to Banjarmasin.

Additionally, several passing ships and fishermen near the site of the sinking assisted in evacuating the victims.
