TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian Trade Minister Budi Santoso will re-evaluate regulations regarding trading through electronic systems (PMSE), or e-commerce, in a bid to strengthen online transaction supervision and protect consumers.
Budi conveyed this at Pasar Rawasari, Jakarta, on Monday, March 16, 2026, in response to rampant reports of alleged fraud in social media transactions. These reports include cases where sellers using verified accounts failed to deliver goods after receiving payment.
According to Budi, the Ministry of Trade is currently making improvements to digital trading regulations, including the revision of ministerial rules related to e-commerce.
"We are currently revising the Minister of Trade regulation related to e-commerce. So, we will review and re-evaluate it together with ministries/agencies and business players," Budi said.
He explained that the evaluation aims to ensure the supervision system for online trading runs more effectively, keeping pace with the increase in digital platform transactions.
In addition to the evaluation, Budi emphasized that the government continues to supervise trading practices and follow up on public reports regarding alleged online fraud.
The Directorate of Consumer Protection and Business Order handles these various consumer complaints. "So, we continue to handle complaints, and we continuously do so within the Directorate of Consumer Protection and Business Order," said Budi.
Digital trading regulations are currently stipulated in Minister of Trade Regulation (Permendag) Number 31 of 2023, which covers business permits, advertising, guidance, and supervision of electronic system actors.
In this review, one discussed option includes regulations to ensure MSME products receive larger space and priority on digital platforms.
