TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Global pizza chain Pizza Hut has been sold to new owners in a deal worth $2.7 billion, according to The Independent and BBC.
Yum! Brands, the parent company of Pizza Hut alongside KFC and Taco Bell, sold the pizza franchise to private equity firm LongRange Capital for $1.5 billion to manage the business outside mainland China. Yum announced that it has completed the deal on Tuesday.
Yum is set to receive another $75 million under the deal, if Pizza Hut hits certain performance targets by 2030.
Yum has also completed a separate deal with Yum China Holdings worth $1.2 billion to manage Pizza Hut in mainland China. Together, the two transactions ended Yum's 30-year ownership of Pizza Hut.
The sale was announced in June, with the BBC at the time reporting that the decision came following a longstanding struggle for Pizza Hut, driven by competitor growth, declining performance in the US market, and the rise of third-party delivery apps.
“We are excited to complete this transaction and to partner with Eduardo and the Pizza Hut team,” said Bob Berlin, Founder and Managing Partner of LongRange.
LongRange is also well-positioned to "build on Pizza Hut’s legacy" with its support and resources, the firm said in a release quoted on Thursday, September 3, 2026.
"We are committed to supporting our franchisees and making the right investments to help Pizza Hut deliver consistently great food and experiences for guests around the world, while executing the operational and digital initiatives that will drive sustainable growth," Berlin added.
Meanwhile, following the divestment from Pizza Hut, Yum is now planning to focus its resources on its remaining core brands it deems having the strongest growth potential, including KFC, Taco Bell, and Habit Burger & Grill. Citing The Independent, the three brands operate across 151 countries and territories, with over 44,000 outlets.
Pizza Hut was founded in 1958 in Wichita, Kansas. In 1977, Pizza Hut was bought by PepsiCo and spun off into what became Yum! Brands in 1997.
