TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – The Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Visa Policy Committee have recommended that the government halve the visa-free stay for foreign tourists to 30 days, Foreign Minister Sihasak Phuangketkeow announced on Friday, March 20.

"After a thorough review of the matter, we came to the conclusion that 60 days is a long time and that it should be reduced to 30 days," the minister told reporters in Bangkok as reported by Antara.

The recommendation applies to all countries currently entitled to the 60-day visa-free privilege without exception, he added.

The ministry, he went on, has recommended this reduction to the government, noting that it applies to all countries entitled to this benefit, without exception or discrimination.

Foreign tourists who wish to extend their stay in Thailand beyond 30 days can apply for a 30-day extension of their visa-free stay, Minister Phuangketkeow noted.
