TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - As Indonesia looks to purchase crude oil and LPG from Russia, Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Bahlil Lahadalia assured that the country's energy deal with the US remains safe and unaffected.
In the courtyard of the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta on Thursday afternoon, Bahlil explained that Indonesia seeks crude oil supplies from various countries—including both the US and Russia—to meet the around 300 million barrels of crude oil demands per year.
"The question is, will we buy crude oil from Russia? And what about our agreements with other countries, including the US? I said we require about 300 million barrels per year, so we'll take anything. We will do anything that benefits our nation," Bahlil said.
Bahlil was reporting the results of the meeting with Putin's special envoy for energy and Russia's Energy Minister to President Prabowo Subianto. The bilateral meeting followed the Moscow talks between Prabowo and Putin on the previous Monday.
According to Bahlil, the outcome of the meeting with the Russian delegation was "quite encouraging."
"We will receive crude oil supplies from Russia, and Russia is also ready to build key infrastructure projects to increase our national energy reserves and resilience," he said.
Bahlil also spoke about the opportunity for LPG imports from Russia, but the talks would have to extend to two or three more meetings.
"InshaAllah, [the LPG imports] will also receive support from Russia, but we still need to fight for it, for two or three more communication phases. But the crude oil, I think, is almost finalized," he said.
