TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto said the tariff imposed by the United States on Indonesian exports has been reduced to 15 percent.
Previously, under the Indonesia-US trade agreement, Washington had agreed to cut tariffs on Indonesian products from 32 percent to 19 percent.
Airlangga said the new 15 percent rate follows an announcement by US President Donald Trump after the Supreme Court of the United States invalidated the reciprocal tariff policy.
“The global tariff is now 15 percent, so the applicable tariff is the global 15 percent rate,” Airlangga said at the Ministry of Manpower office on Friday, February 27, 2026.
Despite the adjustment, Airlangga emphasized that provisions outlined in the Agreement on Reciprocal Trade (ART) between Indonesia and the US remain valid. The agreement will take effect 90 days after signing or following the completion of formal ratification procedures.
Regarding the previously agreed 19 percent tariff rate, Airlangga indicated it could be adjusted downward. “It may be reduced to 15 percent,” he said.
He also ensured that the zero-percent tariff facility for certain Indonesian export commodities would remain consistent with the initial agreement. Discussions are still ongoing regarding tariff treatment for other Indonesian products.
On February 20, the US Supreme Court ruled that the reciprocal tariff policy enacted under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA) was unlawful. The initial announcement lowering tariffs to 10 percent came a day after President Prabowo Subianto and Trump signed the ART in Washington, DC.
Shortly after the court ruling, Trump announced a temporary 10 percent tariff on imports from all countries. The following day, he said the rate would be raised to 15 percent.
