TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama announced the appointment of the world's first government minister responsible for overseeing public tenders using AI. As reported by France 24 and Arab News on Thursday, Rama promised that his creation of intelligence will make the minister "corruption-free."

When introducing his new cabinet at the Socialist Party meeting following a landslide victory in the May elections, Rama introduced the new "member," named "Diella" - "sun" in the Albanian language.

"Diella is the first (government) member who is not physically present, but virtually created by artificial intelligence," said Rama.

Diella will be entrusted with all decisions regarding public tenders, making it "100-percent corruption-free and every public fund submitted to the tender procedure will be perfectly transparent," Rama added.

Launched in January, Diella is an AI-powered virtual assistant that resembles a woman in traditional Albanian attire. She helps people use the official e-Albania platform, which provides documents and services.

According to official data, the platform has helped issue 36,600 digital documents and provided nearly 1,000 services.

Rama, who won his fourth term in office through the elections, will introduce his new cabinet to parliament members in the coming days.

Fighting corruption, especially within public administration, is a key aspect of Albania's efforts to join the European Union.

Rama aspires to lead the 2.8 million population Balkan country into the political bloc by 2030.
