TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Bali's Governor Wayan Koster has stated that the situation in his region is now conducive and safe following the floods that hit on September 9-10. He mentioned that the Bali floods did not impact foreign tourist visits.
Koster claimed that the number of foreign tourist visits did not decrease. Access to I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport was also unaffected. "I checked daily since the floods occurred, there was no change in the number of foreign tourists visiting Bali, which is around 21-22 thousand per day," he said on Saturday, September 13, 2025.
The Bali floods affected several areas, including Denpasar, Badung, Gianyar, and Jembrana. The floods hit on Tuesday morning, September 9, when heavy rainfall struck the island. The floods resulted in casualties and building damage.
According to the latest data, there are 17 fatalities, with 11 in Denpasar, one in Badung, two in Jembrana, and three in Gianyar. Koster stated that five people were reported missing. "They are continuously being searched for by the team until they are found," he said.
Koster also mentioned that the floods, which had submerged the ground floor of the Badung Market, have subsided. Currently, a joint task force is focused on cleaning up the debris carried by the river water.
Thus, according to Koster, in the near future, the Badung Market and Kumbasari Market, which are home to more than 400 traders, can return to normal operation. "In the next few days, traders can start actively selling again," he said.
Furthermore, the Bali Provincial Government is currently assessing the losses suffered by the community and determining responsibilities. Compensation for market traders will be shared between the Bali Regional Budget (APBD) and the Denpasar City. The repair of damaged houses, from minor to severe, will be handled by the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB).
President Prabowo Subianto has already inspected the flood conditions in Bali last Saturday. He flew directly from Qatar to Bali. During the visit, Prabowo promised assistance from the government for the flood victims.
During the presidential visit, Koster conveyed the President's message for the traders and residents to receive serious attention. "We have been tasked to ensure that the regional government calculates all compensations that will be borne by the local government and those to be shouldered by the central government," he said.
