TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Prabowo Subianto attended the commemoration of the Prophet Muhammad's birthday, locally known as Maulid Nabi, at Istiqlal Mosque in Jakarta on Thursday, September 4, 2025.
The Maulid Nabi event also served as a moment for national spiritual reflection, with the theme: “Ecotheology: The Example of the Prophet Muhammad for the Sustainability of the Earth and the Nation.”
President Prabowo shared a photo of his attendance at the Maulid Nabi event on his Instagram account, @prabowo. In the post, he conveyed a message to the nation. "May the commemoration of the Prophet Muhammad's birthday this year serve as a guide and inspiration for the Muslim community throughout Indonesia, to always cultivate love in their hearts and minds in order to preserve the nation," he wrote.
The commemoration began with a recitation of verses from the Quran by qari Qadarasmadi Rasyid, who read Surah Al-Qasas verse 77 and Surah Al-Ahzab verses 45-48. This was followed by Velly Syukron, who provided a profound interpretation of the verses.
Minister of Religious Affairs Nasaruddin Umar then delivered a sermon, reflecting on the wisdom of the Maulid Nabi. He urged attendees to emulate the Prophet in all aspects of life, including leadership and community management.
"We send our salutations and greetings to the Prophet Muhammad, our example in various aspects," Nasaruddin said, quoting an official statement from the Presidential Palace.
"The Prophet Muhammad was chosen by Thomas Carlyle as one of eleven influential figures who have ever lived on this earth, and he was the best of all, that is, the Prophet Muhammad."
Nasaruddin also cited the book, "The 100: A Ranking of the Most Influential Persons in History" by Michael Hart, which listed Prophet Muhammad as the most influential figure. He emphasized that the Prophet's exemplary conduct extended beyond leadership to the management of human life.
"One of the secrets why the Prophet Muhammad was admired throughout the universe is because he was not only the best leader but also appeared as the best manager. There are many leaders, but not all can become the best managers. However, the Prophet Muhammad exemplified both," he explained.
The event concluded with a collective prayer for the safety of the nation, the welfare of its people, and global peace, led by Istiqlal Mosque's Imam, Husni Ismail.
In attendance were Vice President Gibran Rakabuming, Speaker of the People's Consultative Assembly (MPR) Ahmad Muzani, ambassadors from friendly nations, and ministers from the Red and White Cabinet. The event was also virtually attended by representatives from the Ministry of Religious Affairs' regional offices across 34 provinces, 585 district/city offices, and State Islamic Universities nationwide.
