
TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A combined team of rescuers is still searching for the victims of the landslide at the Integrated Waste Treatment Site (TPST) Bantargebang landfill. As of Sunday night, the authorities have already evacuated four bodies.
The Head of the Jakarta Search and Rescue Office, Desiana Kartika Bahari, stated that the landslide at the Bantargebang TPST caused several garbage trucks to be buried. She said, "Many garbage trucks and shops in the area are still buried. For now, we are still compiling data on the number of victims," on Sunday, March 8, 2026.
The Head of the Bekasi City Environmental Agency, Kiswatiningsih, mentioned that they are still trying to handle the pile of trash from the landslide. She also could not confirm the cause of the landslide. She said, "We haven't gathered detailed information yet and are still actively handling the situation."
The Chief of the Bekasi Metro Police, Commissioner General Kusumo Wahyu Bintoro, stated that the four identified victims are known as S, aged 60, a coffee trader; EW, 26 years old, a scavenger; DS, 22, a truck driver from Semper Barat, Cilincing, North Jakarta; and IS, 40, who also worked as a truck driver.
"In addition to the fatalities, two truck drivers, identified as J and R, were reported to have survived the incident," he said in his statement.
Quoting from Antara, the landslide occurred in the Bantargebang TPST area of DKI Jakarta, Zona 4C, RT 004, RW 004, Cikiwul Village, Bantargebang District. The pile of trash that slid covered the road access in the TPST area and collapsed onto a coffee shop and several garbage trucks that were in operation.
The police suspect that there are still other victims buried under the landslide. Based on preliminary data, the number of victims is estimated to be around 10 individuals, consisting of five garbage truck drivers and five local residents who work as scavengers.
