TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Research and Development Indonesia Commodity and Derivatives Exchange ICDX Taufan Dimas Hareva assesses that the strengthening of the rupiah exchange rate is influenced by the government's initiative to channel state funds to the banking sector.

The closing exchange rate of the rupiah on Friday afternoon, September 12, 2025, strengthened by 87 points or 0.53 percent to Rp16,375 per U.S. dollar from the previous Rp16,462 per U.S. dollar.

Meanwhile, the Jakarta Interbank Spot Dollar Rate (JISDOR) at Bank Indonesia today also strengthened to Rp16,391 per U.S. dollar from the previous Rp16,468 per U.S. dollar.

"The positive sentiment comes from the government's move to channel state funds to the banking sector, to strengthen liquidity and encourage credit expansion," he told Antara in Jakarta, on Friday.

"This policy is seen as a strong signal that the government is serious about maintaining financial market stability amidst uncertain global conditions. The market also sees that the additional liquidity, if effectively absorbed, can increase investor confidence in Indonesia's economic prospects," said Taufan.

However, Taufan continued, the political dynamics after the change in the Minister of Finance are still a concern in the market, so the consistency of communication and coordination between the government and Bank Indonesia is key to maintaining the stability of the rupiah in the short term.

Minister of Finance Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa announced that five state-owned enterprise (SOE) banks will serve as the recipients of the government's account funds amounting to Rp200 trillion. Members of the Association of State-Owned Banks (Himbara) are Bank Mandiri, Bank Rakyat Indonesia (BRI), Bank Tabungan Negara (BTN), Bank Negara Indonesia (BNI), and Bank Syariah Indonesia (BSI).

"In Mandiri, we will deposit Rp55 trillion, BRI Rp55 trillion, BTN Rp25 trillion, BNI Rp55 trillion, and BSI Rp10 trillion. The funds will be transferred, which I approved earlier this morning, will be sent shortly," said Purbaya during a press conference at the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs office on Friday, September 12, 2025.

The minister, inaugurated by President Prabowo on September 8, 2025, stated that nominal funds are determined by bank size. Purbaya confirms that government funds transferred from Bank Indonesia (BI) will enter the banking system today.
