TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Trade Minister, Budi Santoso, stated that the Ministry of Trade is ready to process import approval for Apple's latest product, the iPhone 17.
Budi Santoso says that if the technology company meets all the requirements, the Ministry of Trade will promptly process them.
"As long as it complies with the procedure, we will process it," said Budi Santoso in Jakarta on Friday, September 12, 2025.
He explained that the requirements for import approval apply not only to Apple but to all imported commodities. To obtain import approval, one requirement is to receive a recommendation from the relevant technical ministry.
"Basically, for any import, as long as it requires a recommendation from the relevant technical ministry and all requirements are met, we will process it," said Budi Santoso.
Previously, the Ministry of Industry announced that the latest Apple product, the iPhone 17, could be marketed in Indonesia as early as October 2025.
The Head of the Domestic Product Utilization Enhancement Center (P3DN) of the Ministry of Industry, Heru Kustantosaat, stated in Jakarta on Thursday, September 10, 2025, that this was because Apple had previously submitted documents to obtain the Domestic Component Level (TKDN) certificate for the iPhone 17 and stated that the certificate would be issued on that Thursday night.
After obtaining the TKDN certificate from the Ministry of Industry, Heru explained, Apple must obtain distribution permits from the Ministry of Communication and Digital (Komdigi) and Import Approval from the Ministry of Trade.
Apple is committed to increasing its investment value in Indonesia. The Apple vendor factory has started construction in Batam and plans to supply 65 percent of the global AirTag requirements.
The investment is worth US$1 billion, or equivalent to Rp16 trillion, with the potential to create jobs for up to 2,000 people. The investment will continue to be encouraged until it reaches US$10 billion. The vendor factory is targeted to be completed in early 2026.
