TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The 2026 FIFA World Cup, set to be hosted across the United States, Canada, and Mexico, will feature a new expanded format with 48 participating nations from five football confederations.
The qualification process is still underway, but as of September 10, 18 countries have officially booked their places in the tournament.
Three of those are the host nations, United States, Canada, and Mexico, who qualify automatically.
From Asia, six countries have secured their tickets: Japan, South Korea, Australia, Iran, Jordan, and Uzbekistan. For Jordan and Uzbekistan, this marks a historic achievement as both nations will make their debut appearances at a World Cup.
In South America (CONMEBOL), six teams are already confirmed: defending champions Argentina, Brazil, Uruguay, Paraguay, Colombia, and Ecuador.
Over in Oceania, New Zealand has claimed the sole automatic slot.
From Africa, Morocco and Tunisia are the first two representatives to qualify.
Meanwhile, in Europe, the qualification campaign only began this month during FIFA matchdays, with numerous slots still up for grabs. Of the 30 remaining World Cup places, several will also be decided through intercontinental playoffs.
Notably, Bolivia secured a spot in the playoff route after a surprise 1–0 victory over Brazil on Wednesday.
