TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia's Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) acknowledged that selling immovable properties such as land and buildings through auctions remains a major challenge. These assets, often confiscated from corruption cases, are vital for state asset recovery.
Mungki Hadipratikto, KPK’s Director of Asset Tracing, Management, and Execution, said previous auctions showed low demand for immovable assets. In the March 2025 auction, only 4 of 57 lots were sold. A similar outcome followed in June, when just 10 out of 57 immovable assets found buyers.
“Land, buildings, apartments, and similar assets are often harder to sell,” Mungki explained at the KPK National Asset Storage House (Rupbasan) in Jakarta on Monday, September 8, 2025.
According to him, two factors contribute to the sluggish sales: unfavorable economic conditions and high asset valuations. To overcome this, KPK is exploring new mechanisms to make auctions more attractive.
One option under discussion is an installment scheme for big-ticket items, with state-owned banks like Bank Mandiri acting as intermediaries.
“The banks would pay the full amount to the state, while winners could pay in installments through the bank. This could ease the burden and generate more interest,” Mungki said.
Upcoming Auction in September
KPK plans to hold its next auction on Wednesday, September 17, 2025, through the State Property and Auction Service Office (KPKNL). A total of 83 lots worth Rp166.13 billion are up for bidding, comprising 43 immovable and 41 movable assets.
Prospective bidders can inspect the items on Thursday, September 11, at Rupbasan KPK in Jakarta and 10 other KPKNL locations. The auction itself will be conducted simultaneously across 11 cities, including Jakarta, Bogor, Bandung, Bekasi, Cirebon, Denpasar, Lahat, Pekanbaru, Purwokerto, Samarinda, and Tangerang.
Items include land and buildings across several provinces, apartment units in Jakarta and Bogor, as well as movable goods such as cars, bicycles, gold jewelry, and electronics. Asset values range widely, from a shirt priced at Rp5,700 to a factory in Bogor worth Rp60 billion.
“This auction features everything from basic goods to luxury items. Our goal is to maximize recovery for the state,” Mungki emphasized.
