TEMPO.COJakarta - The Director and Chief Project Officer of PT Vale Indonesia Tbk (INCO), Muhammad Asril, has announced that the Investment Managing Body (BPI) Danantara is interested in investing in three of the company's nickel processing facility projects.

"I can confirm that the opportunity for investment is open and, as far as I know, there are currently initial discussions regarding Danantara's involvement in the development of these three projects," said Asril in Jakarta on Thursday, September 11, 2025.

The first project is a collaboration with Zhejiang Huayou Cobalt, a Chinese producer of cobalt, nickel, and lithium, and Ford Motor Company, a multinational automotive company from the United States. This facility is located in Pomalaa, Kolaka, Southeast Sulawesi.

The second project is situated in Sambalagi, Morowali, Central Sulawesi, and is being built with GEM Co., Ltd, a Chinese company specializing in battery materials.

The third project is also a partnership with Zhejiang Huayou Cobalt and is located in Sorowako, East Luwu, South Sulawesi.

According to Asril, the involvement of Danantara or other investors in these projects will strengthen the funding base and accelerate development. He also emphasized the company's commitment to using environmentally friendly energy in all three smelter projects to support global decarbonization efforts.

He noted that around 80 percent of the energy needs for the nickel smelter project in Pomalaa will be met through heat recovery, a technology that captures wasted heat for reuse, while the remainder will come from Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG).

The project in Sambalagi, Morowali, is located within an international green industrial park, with its entire energy supply sourced from renewables, including heat recovery, solar panels, and biomass. "In Morowali, 100 percent of the energy is based on renewable sources and does not use LNG," Asril stated.
