TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A joint team of officials rescued several vehicles and their occupants after a landslide on the Trans-Sulawesi Highway from Parigi Moutong Regency to Palu City, Central Sulawesi, on Thursday night, September 11, 2025.
"Parigi Moutong Regional Police, along with other related parties, have conducted the cleanup using two heavy equipment units: a bulldozer and an excavator," a member of the Parigi Moutong Traffic Unit said in a video statement received in Palu City.
The landslide occurred precisely at Kilometer 8 on the Kebun Kopi route, which leads toward Palu City from Toboli. The event coincided with heavy rains over both Palu City and Parigi Moutong Regency.
Wahid, one of the survivors, revealed that at least four cars and five motorcycles were buried under the debris on that particular route.

Landslides Reported Across Indonesia
Landslides due to heavy rainfall have been reported in several parts of the country in recent days. In Banyumas Regency, Central Java, a landslide struck a passing vehicle.
"The roadside cliff collapsed, bringing down soil, pine, and teak trees, and burying a sedan that was passing by," said Budi Nugroho, Acting Head of the Banyumas Regency National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) and Head of the Banyumas Regency Communication and Information Agency (Dinkominfo) on Thursday.
Other landslide incidents were also reported in Jember, East Java, and at various locations in Bali. The common factor in all these incidents is an increase in rainfall intensity during the second half of September.
