TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that following the escalation of the conflict between Iran, the United States, and Israel this month, Indonesia has decided to suspend all discussions related to the Board of Peace (BoP).
Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Yvonne Mewengkang, explained that this step was taken because Indonesia's current focus is to monitor the dynamics of the conflict in the Middle East and ensure the safety of Indonesian citizens in the region.
"As stated by the Foreign Minister a few days ago, all discussions with the BoP are currently suspended or, in other words, 'on-hold,'" Yvonne said during a press conference in Jakarta on Friday, March 6, 2026, as quoted by Antara.
She explained that the Indonesian government continues to strive to ensure the protection of Indonesian citizens in conflict-affected areas and is focusing on preparing anticipatory measures to deal with the escalation.
Regarding Indonesia's continued participation in the Board of Peace, Yvonne emphasized that any decision to engage in international mechanisms will be based on national interests, considerations of an active and independent foreign policy, and developments on the ground.
Previously, President Prabowo Subianto was said to appreciate various inputs and criticisms regarding the proposal for Indonesia to suspend or even terminate its membership in the Board of Peace.
"The government is not against criticism. We listen while observing the situation," said Minister of Agrarian and Spatial Planning/Head of the National Land Agency (ATR/BPN) Nusron Wahid, while accompanying the President in a meeting with Islamic clerics and civil society organizations at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta on Thursday night.
However, the government views forums like the Board of Peace as still being an important means to strive for peace. The government's current position is to utilize the institution as a part of Indonesia's diplomatic efforts to promote peace in Palestine, he said.
