TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia’s Minister of Agrarian and Spatial Planning, Nusron Wahid, said President Prabowo Subianto’s proposal to help mediate the conflict involving the United States, Israel, and Iran has received positive responses from several countries, particularly in the Middle East.
Nusron said the initiative has been welcomed by leaders from a number of Islamic countries.
“The steps taken by Mr. President have received support from several Middle Eastern and other Islamic countries,” Nusron said after attending an iftar gathering hosted by Prabowo at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta on Thursday evening, March 5.
He cited the United Arab Emirates and Pakistan as among the countries expressing support for the proposal.
Nusron emphasized that peace efforts in the Middle East require collective action. According to him, the ongoing confrontation involving Iran, the United States, and Israel could have far-reaching global consequences.
During the gathering, Prabowo reportedly briefed guests on the conflict and other global developments. Nusron said the president spent around three hours outlining current geopolitical and economic issues before Islamic leaders attending the event.
The first topic discussed, he said, concerned global geopolitics and economic developments, including the situation in Palestine and the impact of recent U.S. and Israeli attacks on Iran. The second focused on Indonesia’s domestic economic and social conditions.
The iftar event was attended by prominent leaders of Indonesia’s major Islamic organizations. Among them were Miftachul Achyar, chair of the executive board of Nahdlatul Ulama; Haedar Nashir, chair of Muhammadiyah; and Anwar Iskandar, chair of the Indonesian Ulema Council. A discussion session with other participants followed the breaking of the fast.
According to Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Zulkifli Hasan, Prabowo began his briefing to attendees at around 08:00 PM local time and continued until approximately 11:00 PM.
“He spoke for three hours,” Zulkifli said, referring to the president’s explanation of several issues, including the escalating conflict involving the United States, Israel, and Iran.
The gathering was also attended by figures from various Islamic organizations. Among them were Yahya Cholil Staquf, chair of Nahdlatul Ulama’s executive board, and Habib Hanif Alatas, secretary of the advisory council of the Islamic Defenders Front.
Other guests arriving at the palace earlier in the afternoon included leaders of Islamic boarding schools and prominent preachers.
