TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Student Alliance of the University of Indonesia (UI) has declared it will hold a mass demonstration if the demand for President Prabowo Subianto to withdraw Indonesia from the Board of Peace (BoP) is not met.
Razan Diandra Fatahillah, a representative of UI Students for Justice in Palestine, stated that the mass action titled "Weekend Melawan" has been organized by the UI Student Alliance and a coalition of civil society, assuming Prabowo ignores their demands. "A cross-movement mass action will be held on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday," Razan told Tempo on Thursday, March 5, 2026.
This "Weekend Melawan" action, she said, is expected to trigger similar movements in other regions to push for Indonesia's withdrawal from the BoP and to reconsider the cancellation of Prabowo's plan to send Indonesian soldiers to Gaza.
Razan explained that the protests will start tomorrow, March 6, at the Parliament Complex, followed by a gathering at the Arjuna Wijaya Horse Statue area in Central Jakarta on Saturday. "The location for Sunday remains tentative," she added.
Yesterday, the UI Student Alliance sent a letter containing four demands to Prabowo through the State Secretariat Ministry. The four demands urge Prabowo to halt the plan to send Indonesian soldiers to Gaza under the International Stabilization Force (ISF) mission and demand that Prabowo fulfill his promise to withdraw Indonesia from the BoP forum.
Furthermore, the alliance insists that Prabowo and the Red and White Cabinet revise a Ministry of Foreign Affairs statement, which they argue downplays the U.S.-Israeli military operations against Iran as a failure of negotiations, and instead issue a firm condemnation and denunciation of the U.S. and Israel.
"We also give an ultimatum to the President and his officials to fulfill all demands within 3x24 hours before the wrath of the Indonesian people," said Fathimah Azzahra, another representative of the UI Student Alliance.
The alliance views Indonesia's participation in the BoP as contrary to the mandate of the 1945 Constitution’s preamble, which rejects all forms of colonization. They argue that the forum is dominated by the United States and its ally Israel, without any representation for Palestine.
Israel continues to colonize Palestinian land through military aggression, while the U.S. has repeatedly vetoed United Nations Security Council (UNSC) efforts to recognize Palestinian statehood.
Prabowo's decision to join the Board of Peace was made during his attendance at the World Economic Forum in Switzerland on Thursday, January 22.
In the presence of U.S. President Donald Trump and Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, Prabowo signed the BoP charter, signaling approval to join the forum established by the United States, a close ally of Israel.
