US Media Says UAE, Qatar Pressing Trump to Curb Iran Strikes

3 hours ago 6

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The United Arab Emirates and Qatar have been quietly lobbying allies to persuade US President Donald Trump to limit the duration of military operations against Iran, Bloomberg reported on Monday, as cited by Anadolu.

Both nations are endeavoring to build a broad coalition aimed at securing a swift diplomatic resolution to the conflict, driven largely by concerns over regional escalation and long-term energy price upheaval, according to Bloomberg, citing sources familiar with the matter.

Qatar's assessment warned that the natural gas market could experience a significant reaction if shipping lanes in the region remain disrupted until the middle of this week.

These efforts come after Trump stated on Monday that the campaign was expected to last four to five weeks, although he noted it could be extended if necessary. He also claimed the operation is proceeding "ahead of schedule," without providing specific details.

Meanwhile, both countries are rushing to bolster their air defense capabilities, according to the media outlet.

The UAE has sought assistance from allies for medium-range air defenses, while Qatar specifically seeks help in countering drone attacks. Qatar also faces a critical shortage of Patriot interceptor missiles, with internal analysis indicating its supply will only last another four days at the current usage rate, as reported by Bloomberg.

Earlier on Monday, Qatar stated that its air defenses had intercepted seven ballistic missiles and five drones, and shot down two SU-24 planes launched toward the Gulf state.

Iran has targeted Gulf states hosting US military assets in retaliation for the joint US-Israeli campaign launched on Saturday that killed several senior Iranian officials, including Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, along with his wife, son, daughter-in-law, and a 14-month-old grandchild.

The CIA's headquarters in Dubai was reportedly the target of Iran's missile attack, according to the Fars news agency via its Telegram channel, as cited by Tass. Earlier reports had indicated four people were injured in Iran's attack on Dubai International Airport.

According to the IRGC, the Al Minhad US airbase in the United Arab Emirates was targeted with six drones and five ballistic missiles.

Qatar's Responses

On Tuesday, Qatar denied Bloomberg's report claiming that its Patriot missile supply had been depleted, stating that the inventory remains sufficient and the armed forces are fully prepared.

In a statement, the International Media Office, as cited by Anadolu, said the Qatar Armed Forces continue to demonstrate their capability to defend the country from external threats and remain in full readiness to protect citizens, residents, and visitors.

They referred to the report as "false information" published without verification during an extremely sensitive period and stated that authorities are reviewing all appropriate options, including legal action, to ensure the correction of such misinformation.
